Loire Valley: Chenin blanc and Cabernet franc

The terroir is very different :

  • The West, in Anjou, the terroir is an ancient mountain called the massif amoricain with mainly slate and volcanic soils. The climate is oceanic and temperate.
  • The East, in Saumur and Touraine, is known as the Paris Basin and the soil consists mainly of limestone. The climate is continental.
